Historic Franch building secured as first site for the Space to Create Trinidad project.
Located at 200 W. Main Street, the Franch building has a rich and eclectic history, which will be matched and greatly surpassed as the new complex for creative people and enterprises is completed. The building historically housed apartments and retail businesses, most recently Gordito’s Mexican Café, known for its green and white décor.
In 2007 a fire threatened to destroy the building and potentially the entire city block. Partially restored by a local contractor, the building went into foreclosure when the 2008 recession hit. Through a strong sense of community support, International Bank deeded the property to Trinidad for the Space to Create project. Because of this type of collaboration by many businesses in Trinidad, economic stimulus is making an appreciably positive impact on our town.
Based on information gleaned from a soon to be completed Market Survey, the new look and interior configuration of the Franch will be disclosed in the coming months.
