Space to Create project in the Funding phase; receives $2 million grant from DOLA.
Everyone sits quietly, with fingers crossed, as the Space to Create project moves slowly but steadily through the funding phase, after the passion of the Feasibility and Marketing Survey phase, then the exciting Assessment, Environmental, and Engineering phase.
With great pride, Lee Merkel of the Department of Local Affairs, surprised City Council with the first solid commitment of funding. Soon after that, Gabe Engeland, Trinidad City Manager, Will Law COO of Artspace, and Tim Schultz CEO of the Boettcher Foundation made a solid case before the CHFA Board with a request of 6.5 million dollars toward the housing portion of the massive project. To support the CHFA request, Trinidad residents provided close to 60 letters describing the positive impact the Space to Create facility will have on the economy of our town. Results of this request will be announced in mid-September.
Once all the funding has been secured, construction will begin.
